Paul Freedman on the eighteenth-century recuperation of the Catalan past

Last Friday we were honoured to welcome Professor Paul Freedman, the renowned Yale historian of medieval Catalonia. This event was held in collaboration with the School of History at Queen Mary University of London.

In this seminar, Professor Freedman commented on the career and work of historian Jaume Caresmar, as presented in his book The Splendor and Opulence of the Past: Studying the Middle Ages in Enlightenment Catalonia. After the lecture, attendees had the chance to ask Professor Freedman questions on several topics, often linking Catalonia’s past to its current political and social situations.
