On 15 May, Professor M. Àngels Francés, from Universitat d’Alacant, gave an online lecture on the changes in the literary canon, ‘Back with the literary canon: alternative-creating dynamics, dialogues and echoes’, as part of a research project she is participating in.
The lecture focused on how the new ways knowledge is expanded and information exchanged create a new conception of a reader, different from the traditional view. M. Àngels Francés also discussed the different approaches to the literary canon and how social media are playing a role in this field, giving real examples such as how best sellers are often the most mentioned books on Twitter. The attendees found the lecture very interesting and they participated in a talk on their personal experiences using social media to learn more about literature.
