The Institut Ramon Llull, the institution that works for the promotion of the Catalan language and culture abroad, recently organised a new edition of the Introductory Seminar to the Audiovisual World and Subtitling (Seminari d’introducció al món audiovisual i la subtitulació), aimed at current and former Catalan language students who have an interest in this field.
Former QMUL student Nina Harigai, who completed her BA in Hispanic Studies with Business Management last year, and who completed all three courses on Catalan language offered (Introductory Catalan, Catalan II Intensive and Catalan III), was accepted to the seminar, which took place from 2nd to 5th December, and she made the most of it. The course combined practical and theoretical sessions on subtitling and visits to institutions, organizations and companies in the sector.
In Nina’s own words, “The seminar was a truly incredible experience in every way. I learned a lot about subtitling (for the first time I had the opportunity to translate from Catalan to Japanese!). The teacher was very nice and professional, and all the visits were very educational. In addition, I met people who have left a very important mark in my heart forever, all connected by the love we have for languages, and, of course, for Catalan!”.
Endavant amb l’estudi del català, Nina!
