Last week, the launch of the English translation of Dolors Miquel’s El guant de plàstic rosa (The Pink Plastic Glove), organised by the Centre for Catalan Studies and Tenement Press, took place at Queen Mary.
John London, Director for the Centre for Catalan Studies, introduced the event, which included talks by translators Peter Bush and Stephen Watts. The attendees also had the chance to watch a special film incorporating readings of the original Catalan poems by Dolors Miquel herself and of Peter Bush’s respective translations.
There were even more opportunities to hear readings of other poems from the collection, with Peter Bush and Stephen Watts reading the English versions and Cristòfol Tripiana Traver, Catalan language assistant at Queen Mary, reading the Catalan. The event concluded with PhD student Beth Caygill’s presentation of her own unique translations of Dolors Miquel’s poetry.
