Julieta, the Catalan singer who is giving a concert in London today along with the Catalan band The Tyets, visited Queen Mary yesterday in an event organised by Institut Ramon Llull and Bona Gents.
Our students had the chance to put their Catalan to the test by interviewing her, asking questions such as why she decided to start composing music, how it feels to be a famous singer in Catalonia, the people’s opinion on her singing in Catalan, and which international artists she would like to work with. After the Q&A, our students took part in a translation exercise, in which they had to translate the lyrics of one of Julieta’s songs from English to Catalan. Afterwards, they were able to compare their Catalan versions with the original version, and the results were very close.
